I have a new RODI system. I have created two black water 20 gallon long tanks. When is a good time to replace the cartridges? I’m assuming when the water TDS reaches around 20 ppm. Recommendations?

tds 20 is pretty high - be aware the sediment filter and carbon filter (if you are not pre-removing chlorine) have to be replace periodically; if you do this then the ro membrane should last a couple of years IF your system back flushes and your tds is not overly high.

In my case i have these large carbon filters that can handle several million gallons to remove chlorine but if you are just using the the little carbon thingy on the ro unit it is important you replace that as needed else chlorine will blow out the ro membrane pretty fast.

Not really answering your question but with tds 140 on the faucet and maybe 60,000 gallons my ro membrane is fine.

Do be aware that temperature has a huge impact on the output tds as does pressure. My unit with-out di still gets around 6 tds (which is high but not unacceptable). I became too lazy to refilll di cansiters since they last less than a week.
