hi everyone
my friend has a large 4 or 5 foot aquarium currently home to two terrapins but he would like to get some fish in there instead so just want to know if the reptile UV light would harm tropical fish?

Uv wont make much difference to the fish once the terrepins have eaten them :good:

That aside, i dont think it will do them any favours to be honest. But seriously... putting fish in a tank with terrepins is like putting a cat and a mouse in a box and waiting to see what happens.

The mouse either gets eaten or has a heart attack and dies of terror first from being trapped with no escape in with a predator.

yea we know this lol thats why i said he wants fish instead of the terrapins lol

The uv light will be of no benefit to the fish, nor will it harm them. The uv is absorbed by the water very quickly, no effect at all on live stock. Now if he wants live plants he should change the bulbs out, as I don't believe the visible spectrum of light in a uv bulb is correct.

Check its a proper aquarium though as tanks for reptiles arnt designed to hold the pressure of being full of water.

Terrapin tanks are designed to hold water, they're usually fish tanks anyway that have just got a UV bulb.
UV light will not harm the fish in any way. I've used one before just for a light when I had no plants in the tank. Its fine.
