Removing flowers

The packet of aponogeton bulbs I got says that the flowers should be removed to promote steady growth. Where to I trim the flowers? Where the flower starts or the bottom of the stem?

I've always trimmed them at the bottom of the stalk. Keep in mind though that was after I enjoyed the bloom for a bit.

as low as you can cut it. If you leave it too long, it will make your plant go to rest.
