I'm assuming this will probably go down like a lead balloon, but, is it worth keeping sigs on TFF? A ton of users can't stick to the guidelines (even after 3 pinned topics!) and a member in particular today used a signature that could lose a TFF user their job if discovered in the cache files no doubt (this is speculation of course)

I know signatures are a part of TFF that has always been, and I do enjoy reading the vast majority of them, but sometimes the few spoil it for the many.

I understand there is an option in my assistant for switching them off, however, it's very difficult to use as some people when asking for help say "refer to my signature for details", meaning I almost always have to have it switched on if I want to keep up with the topic and keep it relevant. On a few occassions these posters also haven't included the details of the tank/fish in question in their profile, making it even more difficult.

I hope I haven't come over as being too much of a killjoy, I really enjoy TFF (I'm nearly at 1000 posts and have enjoyed reading every thread!) and I understand it may be a bit pedantic of me to ask if they should be removed, but I know it's something that bothers other people too, something made clear by the 3 pinned topics.

I'd vote no.
I don't mind people sigs UNLESS, they have HUGE pictures and they write wayy too much.
That does bother me, although i could really care less if they were 3-5 sentances overboard.

Don't get me wrong, the ones which stick to the guidelines are great, the ones with links to diaries and FAQ's and offer decent advice are absolutely fantastic, but sadly they are few and far between.

 Probably, peple like there sigs, lol!

And thats the reason why we have the quidlines, as stated in the pinned articles. Most of us, like Ethos, dont mind if they are kept within them.

Just point out the rediculously large sig by PM'ing a Mod a link to the person. It will be removed. :) I do....

This is the main part of fella's post for me.. my work are relaxed.. but nipples in sigs are not for all members work places...
:D :D :hyper: :hyper:

Squid

Was a lovely signature though, broke my heart to delete it :/

People who have inappropriate sigs, (or avatars), should be reported, ideally by PM'ing an active mod, as reporting the post often takes a long time to work.

People with excessive sigs can also be reported, however, I remember well a regular that started reporting sigs, when their own sig was not within spec, so watch that one!

Generally, text sigs download quickly so are less of a trouble than large pictures which on a slow line can really cause user troubles.

maybe just more actively PM people who are breaking the rules? politely of course.

I guess I just don't like being a tell tale :X

I know I'm being picky, and a signature with 6 lines of text isn't a big deal really, but I think they make the pages look a bit sloppy.

I've taken on board what's been said though, and I'm sure some other people must feel the same as I do.

I hope I haven't offended anyone with what I've said :)

I think it's nice when people take the trouble to put an interesting sig and I love the avatars (that's what the pictures are called?). I am completely uncreative and don't even have a picture! :)

But yall, do remember to talk to that person.

And just because I'm cool like that,
Lay off the people who have 1 or 2 text lines more than the rule. If its really that bad a mod can deal with it, but most of the sigs that don't meet the guide lines aren't that bad.
Unless its a big photo, well, I can't blaim you there.
