Hi peoples.. i just got myself a red tailed catfish, at an amazing price of £40.. Just though i`d let u all know..
Its only 1 1/2 "`s qute little fellow... :)

WOW!! U lucky G!T :D I would love to have one of those!

£40 is a brill price, i've only seen em at £100

My lfs has 2 left.. County Durham (fish alive), i purchased a baby stingray (Pontamotrygon hystrix) whilst i was there..

i`m waiting for that to grow as its only 3" in diameter, so i can determine the sex to get another of a different gender..

i was also thinking of getting anothr redtail, but i have only got 2 6ft tanks, as everyone knows, they can grow some size..
but i`m going back to the shop on thursday.. its real hard to say no.. and everytime i go in with a pocket full of cash, i cum out broke.. my lass go`s mad, as i`d rathr buy fish then eat.. :( but i love me fishes.. she does`nt understand...

red tail and a stingray way cool! have to get a p[ic of ur stingray and post it!

What's the Red Tail going in with Mac p? From your other post a few days ago it seems you have Oscars and Convicts etc. In your tanks.... And what about your Ornate Polypterus? All I'm saying m8 is take it easy... if you want the Red Tail and Stingray to thrive you'll have to move other fish on.... they may eventually become dinner!! And a Red Tail that size may be vulnerable itself.... Let us know how you get on B)

Yeah i went and bought another 6tf x 2ft x 2tf tank for the other side of the room.. I did decide to seperate the redtail, but the stingray is actually ok. i was worried about the stingray, but none of them touch it.. which is good.. the redtail does`nt show his face that much. I`ve decided to keep the large fish in one tank, and have small fish in the other, i`ve placed aload of mollies and guppys in with the redtails, mainly for breeding purposes.. so live food will be available for all the fish, then when the catfish becomes a big bugger :) i`ll just transport the little fish into a smaller tank.. and leave the catfish in on its own, or with a tiger shovel nose just to keep iy company..

but i`ll kep u all posted..
im gonna try and make a pic of the red tail and the stingray and both the tanks.. laterz...

it is 4 oclock in the morning! and i need sleep   lol what u pay for a 6ft tank where you are mac!

You will be heading for problems if you're not careful m8! You posted your intentions a week or so ago.... Think of the size these fish will get, I still don't think a 6ftx2ftx2ft will do the Red Tail or Tiger shovelnoses any good - they both have the potential to grow to a meter in length, even in captivity. Both are open water predators very near the top of the food chain in the wild. Me and the missus would like one eventually but we've made an agreement that it will only be when we have room to build an indoor heated pond/tank at least 12ftx4ftx4ft deep! And thats a long way off. Just think of the welfare of the fish and the utter commitment needed for them, for them and for you to remain happy!

CRYOSI!!
one tank cost me £100 with a stand cabinet and hood.
The other cost me £150, and i got the same, with extras.( fluval 4, external bio filter a heater and air pump, and gravel..

CICHLIDMASTER!!
IN TANK NUMBER 1.: I have 8 oscars, 2 fully grown the other are little more then medium sized.., 3 tiger shovel noses, 1 stingray..1 sevrus (golden), 1 large marbled clarius cat fish, Pimelodus sp.cf. blochi cat fish..Sorubim lima..1 large pleco..
Tank number 2,: 1 Polpterus ornatipinnis, 5 firemouths, 1 Red tailed catfish, 6 convicts, 2 Haplochromis Livingstoni. 1 large pleco..

I actually intend to knock the middle wal out of living room where it joins the diding room,a nd have bothe tanks joint 2gether ,and get a seperate 6ft tank just for the oscars as they like to eat fish :)

I missed two of tank number 1, there`s 2 african knife fish in there also.. :)

"day i went to my lfs and saw another red tail, i could`nt help but buy another one..
i`ve decided to but a very big tank, to accomadate them as i intend to keep em for their natural life span..

Wow if you've got a digital camera or a scanner we'd love to see some photos of your setups. Red tails are a magnificent fish!! :)

All i`ve got is a webcam which does`nt give the fish or the tanks much justice, i intend to buy a simple camera and scan them in..if anyone has yahoo or netmeeting i`ll be happy to show u all.. LIVE :)

2day i went to the shop and bout issue 2 of "PRACTICAL FISH KEEPING" and there was a artical made by "Maidenhead Aquatics", it said that they have new policy!! They won`t actually have fish like red tails, and other large fish, as they call em "tank busters" sold in thier shops..!!... Now i thought ok, but why??!!..they reckon that people but fish and relaise that when they get to a certain size the fish keeper realises he can`t keep them anymore as he can`t look after it.. now they ahd a poll going on.. "Should tankbusters be more carefully controlled", 61% said yes and 24% maybe and 15% said no... Personely i think its shud be, as i seen people take their fish back after they realise they do get too big.. Which i do not like as its stressful for the fishies.. I think b4 any aqutic shop thinks about selling their fish, i suggets they come in with a water sample, and dimensions of their tankm so the shop keeper can determine wots best for them.. I know i have potentialy big fish, but atleast i can home mine for the time being, and there is no way i`ll send mine back to a aquatic shop.. i could`nt just let it grow up and give it away as its part of ur life.. anywayz.. there u have it, a bit of news :)
