I now have an infestation of red and black hair algae. Ive had the black for a while, but the red sprang up overnight and its quite bad. Does anyone have any advice on how to get ride of it, apart from just pulling it out (because its on leaves and wood which makes it awkward. thanks :)

You could try some algae eaters that won't harm plants, I think nerite snails are good for this and can't reproduce in fresh water. :good:

which algae eaters are good, ive got 3 ottos and a few assassins snails, but my tank is only 125litres so im not sure if i could handle a pleco or anything like that, but im not too sure, ive not had one before

I think its due to fluctuations in carbon levels. Cut the leaves with it on and scrub it off your wood. Then smaller more regular water changes rather than larger weekly ones keep it at bay in my planted tanks without co2 injection
