hi can anyone recommend a decent internal filter as i currently have 3 of the interpet ones which are a pain to be honest they need cleaned every 2 weeks as the flow reduces dramatically otherwise i live in the uk an my lfs only sell these type of filters so if i need to travel to get a decent filter from another shop i will

It would help if you told us your tank size?

I recommend Fluval plus range and Eheim aquaball.

In that case I recommend external filters without a doubt. A Eheim 2213 might suffice for the 3ft, but how many gallons ?

For the Juwel 240 I'd go for Eheim 2026.

Internals can be better in smaller tanks though. I prefer internals, more neat and tidy, externals can be confusing, noisy, expencive and they can suck up small fish if your not careful.

I think you should go for an internal, powerful and quiet. But many prefer externals for their big area of media

But those are so not small tanks - and to be fair I don't think you can really judge if you haven't actually used both and are able to compare like for like on a tank.

You absolutely love your Fluval 2 I know - but honestly if you used an external, you'd know what the incredible difference is and understand why I feel so strongly about it.

Edit: How are external confusing ? :S They couldn't be simpler or easier.
I've had more internal filter disasters sucking and mangling small fish than I've had external - in fact: no external disasters!
How can you make those remarks if you haven't had both types of filters to compare ?

Red pleco
do you use the lfs in hastings (bexhill road?) or the one in bexhill?
the hastings one is better by far IMHO.
they should be able to order in any eheim for you

I think about it this way, if a filter is outside of your tank.... it's not taking up room inside your tank :D

Could you imagine having a Eheim Professional 3 in your tank!

thanks for all your advice and tips ill have a think on it..............................

Well i spoke to my fish shop and they explained it too me (no they dont lie, i know them really well. They could have sold me an external, and get more money if they wanted to lie) but they said how externals are more suitable for larger tanks.

It doesnt really matter though, just what works for you i guess?
