hi all ,
i had a couple of male rams , been trying to get females for a while now , but it seems hard to get them in the uk , anyway was told by a local shop that the ones he had in supply where females , so i got a couple of them , only about 1 1/2 inch big and put them in my tank with two other rams 2 1/2 inch big and all my other fish , 2 kribs , 5 platy , 1 plec , 3 mollies and 4 zebra danio , my problem is that one of the new rams is chasing after every fish in the tank , my other rams didnt do this , but its only this one ram , its going crazy , any fish that comes near it gets a good chasing round the tank , any suggestions why it is doing this as its only 1 1/2 inch big and it wants to fight with everything.
many thanks
dave

Any pair of rams (i.e., a male and a female) will try and set up a territory where they might spawn. In the process, they will drive away other fishes, especially fish they view as potential egg predators. Rams seem to dislike fish that swim at the bottom of the tank, probably for this reason. That's what's going on in your tank at the moment.

Ideally, move the pair to their own tank, and perhaps add a few surface dwellers (like hatchetfish or danios) as dither fish to make them feel more secure.

Cheers,

Neale
