Ok i have decided to add either Bolivian Rams or Gouramis to my new tank (22g). I can't choose between them. I was thinking 1 male gouramis and 1 male ram, would this work? If not would a pair of male rams work? or is male and female better? Any other options?
Advantages and disadvantages of each fish would be great.
Thanks again :)

what gorumai's are these we are talking about?

rams IME do better as a m/f pair.

:good:

Judging by the size of Rams I'd say he's probably talking about Dwarf Gouramis, and the fact that he has a dwarf gourami as his avatar

Sorry should have stated that - i am talking about dwarf gouramis.
So how does a m/f pair of rams and 1 male dwarf gouramis sound?

sounds ok if you went with more gourami's it 1m to 2f just so you know.

your plan sounds good.

:good:

Yea, gouramis can be aggressive to their own kind, For my 3 that i have, theres 1 female and 2 males, there is a odd chase around here and there, but they have been fine for ages(in my tank, but others can be different). That reminds me, I want to find them new homes for them as I want some other fish.

So would a m/f pair of bolivian rams and 1 malf dwarf gouramis be ok with the following:
22g tank.
4 black widow tetras
4 black neon tetras
2 platys
1 molly
?

i say mollies are brackish water fish as they can be disease prone in freshwater IME

:good:

Jay Jay does have a bit of a point. They do enjoy a small ammount of salt in their water if the water is soft. Mollies can actually be acclimated to a full marine environment but can readily live and breed in fresh water.

My previous post was a little unclear. I currently have a 15g with the molly, platys and tetras. I am upgrading to a 22g in a couple of weeks, so will move my current fish into the new tank and then hopefully add the rams and the gourami.
The molly was a rescue mission from a friends tank, he's done well so far so i'll see how it goes.
Anyway back to the main question, how does this stocking sound for a 22g?

2x Bolivian rams
1x Male Dwarf Gourami

4x black neon tetras
4x black widow tetras
2x platys
1 x molly (i'll see what happens with this guy)

I used to have a pair of rams with one male dwarf gourami, 3 platys and a few pygmy cories in a small tank. The gourami did chase the rams a bit but nothing major. I still have the rams, now moved into my main big tank. Unfortunately the gourami is no more :-(

He got a bacterial infection. Shame because he was gorgeous and a real character.
I personally think your stocking list is ok, I would have those fish in a 22 gall tank.

And he's in the tank with the castle, tacky, tacky....
