I've just found one of my two salt and pepper mollies dead, stuck up against the side of my powerhead :-(

It has been in my tank for about 10 weeks and has always seemed fine, when I fished it out, it had a clamped tail fin but not sure if thats just because it was dead, there were no signs of anything wrong last night when I did my usual waterchange.

All stats are fine using API master kit, guess its just one of those things :-(

RIP molly

Andy

The sharks need 40 gallon tanks and shouldn't be kept together.
Your tanks overstocked.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Yes I'm aware I'm overstocked, but my sharks have been in since little before I found this site and are still only 5.5" and 3" and all the fish get along fine. I've never seen any sign of bullying between any of my fish, even my betta gets on fine with all my fish as that has been in there over a year.

The Stats are:

PH - 7.2
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Nitrate - 10ppm

I do 1 or 2 water changes a week depending on nitrate level and I've currently got 2 filters running on the tank as I'm currently seeding my new eheim external filter from my jewul internal and have been seeding about 2 weeks.

With out any symtoms it's hard to say what happened.

Thanks wilder.

I've just found another dead fish, my dalmation molly, it seemed fine earlier.

I've just done another water test results are as follows:

Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Nitrate - 10/20 ppm

The only thing that has changed recently on the tank is remember I'm dosing with melafix to treat my betta's cut and pop eye that I posted the other day, I wonder if the two dead fish have reacted badly to the melafix??

The popeye is almost cleared now, and the betta is still in the breeding trap, I think I'll stop treating the melafix, do a large water change first thing in the morning to get it out of the tank and leave the betta to finish healing unaided.

Any other ideas?

Andy

What does it look like when the fish go to the toilet.
Some fish can't tolerate the full dose of melafix so sometimes it just best to start off with half dose.

I can't speak for each individual fish but the ones I have seen go to the toilet, it looks fine.

I did start of with half dose for first few days and they all seemed fine but the popeye didnt seem to be clearing so I upped it to full dose about 2 days ago, I'm guessing this must be the most likely cause then.

I havent had any deaths in my tank at all for about a year before today :-(
