I currently have 3 albino and 3 skunk corydoras. While I couldn't sleep lastnight I was up watching my tank. I noticed that my skunks were busily working looking for food all over the place. My albinos were just flying back and forth along the front glass of the tank. While I don't mind this, they seemed to annoy my guppies a bit, and I am sure they will annoy my gouramis when I get them. I was thinking of taking them back and getting something else. I am going to end up with about 12 corydoras, so would it be good to get all 12 as skunks or get say 6 skunks and 6 of something else? Also what is another corydoras that is fairly available most places that has about the same temperment? I don't mind the occasional runs but the albinos do it non stop. Are most other corydoras a little more calm and the albinos just hyper? Thanks for the help.

Brad

Hi Brad

I have many different corys all in one tank and they are all hyper :) One starts the parade off then they all join in. I haven't really noticed the albino ones being more active than the others.

I was thinking that same thing, but my skunks never join in. When I woke up this morning they were still busy looking around and scanning the decorations for anything to eat, and my albinos were still going back and forth. These little guys are crazy. Do yours seem to bother your other fish? I just don't want them to stress any of my other fish out my swimming like crazy all over the place.

Mine live with 6 clown loaches who have on occations actually joined in and a pair of dwarf gouramis who don't seem too bothered by them. I do have them in quite a large tank (400Ltrs) so that may help. How big is your tank?

My cories fly all over the tank too and none of the fish seem stressed out about it at all :dunno:

Hi bccromer :)

Your albinos are probably more typical of corys in general than the C. arcuatus (skunk corys) which tend to be more shy and reserved. If they are still quite young, they will probably settle down a bit when they mature.

I've never known corys to disturb other community fish. The gouramis will probably ignore them since they are more concerned with defending their territories from other gouramis than in what bottom dwellers are doing.

Since you plan to get so many, let me ask if you plan to breed them. If so, I should tell you that skunk corys are considered to be very difficult. I have some and while I have never had an extra tank to tie up trying to get them to spawn, they are in a tank with other corys who have spawned, but they have not. The albinos are usually easier, and a good one to begin with, if you have not raised corys before.
