-_- Hi...I think some of my fish (new 75 gallon freshwater) have ich. I have an ich medicine called Quick Cure. Do I need to take all my plants out of my tank? I have Peace Lily, Melon Sword, Anubias, Wisteria, Moneywort and Crypt....and they are newly planted. I don't want to disrupt them, but don't want them to die either. A guy at a locat pet shop told me to take them out and put them in a bucket for a few days...

Any advice appreciated.

It shouldn't be necessary with most ich treatments - though I'm not familiar with this product, what does it say on the bottle?

Once the treatment has worked do a min 25% water change and add some activated carbon. This should quickly reduce any detrimental effects of the remedy.

Don't delay on the treatment though and turn up the temp to 29-30 C - speads up the cycle of ich and therefore makes the remedy more effective.

Let us know how you get on

:)

 The bottle says very little....I will try what you recommend and keep my fingers crossed! Thanks so much for the help!

Hi Jeanne,

Found their home page and this is what they have to say on-line:

Quick Cure
Powerful anti-parasite medication that cures Ick in 2 days!!
Ideal for Freshwater and Marine aquariums
Will not effect biological systems
Quick Cure is the fastest treatment for curing Ick producing results in only 2 days.

Ick (Ichthyophtoirius Mulfifilis) are small ciliate protozoan cysts that look like sugar or salt granules. As these cysts mature, they fall off the fish and then divide into thousands of trophonts (like spores) that can populate your tank and attach all the other fish in your tank.

Quick Cure is an scientific formulation utilizing special zinc-free ingredients. Quick Cure is safe for Freshwater and Marine aquariums (though it should not be used with invertebrates).

It doesn't say whether it is safe with plants or not but they do have a Contact Us page if you want to check with them direct - the home page is here.

HTH, Eddie

If you snoop around you'll find the ingredients list. But I am surprised Eddie, I thought your side of the pond had Quick Cure. Anyway, it is malachite green and formalin. It doesn't hurt plants. But in my experience it has hurt some fish (loaches, plecos, tetras). Best used half dose for those guys.

Hi Ostrow,

Too be honest I have no idea whether it is available over here - I have been lucky so far and not had any need to use any medications (fingers, arms and legs firmly crossed :) ).

I know that if I did think I needed to use anything I would ask here first to get the real answers rather than rely on the manufacturer's say so.

Cheers, Eddie
