question for shrimp tank owners.

I do water changes on my shrimp 10 gallon tanks every other time I do the big tanks, so once a week, and about every other time, I do RO, and the other time is straight very hard well water... my shrimp tanks are full of plants, and one month, I skipped water changes in the shrimp tank, and the population seemed to double that month, not sure if that's from skipping a couple water changes, or???

I have a group of breeding neocardina in my 60l along with ricefish. 10-15% biweekly changes are the most I've done in probably 2-3 months. The tank is a jungle of plants and does have pothos growing in as well, so I also add 1-2L top-ups occasionally.

I probably should test my water, but I stopped doing that when I saw breeding activity.

When my shrimp tank was set up I tried to do weekly water changes, though life has got in the way recently and water changes were less often; and around 40% each time. In my main tank, the shrimps get the same as the fish - 50% a week.
You will read that large frequent water changes are bad for shrimps. No-one has told my shrimps that; they thrive even with large weekly water changes.

Mine get 50-75% per week. I am away from home now but immediately before I left I was experimenting with getting fish in the same tank to spawn. So for a couple of weeks I was doing daily 50% changes with cooler water. The shrimp breeding activity continued unabated.
In fact it increased - but I suspect that is because I also raised the temp in the tank and is probably not related to the extra water changes.
