Question about breeding gouramis

when you breed the gouramis:::

when do you have to empty half of the tank??

i already put the male and female together. the male started to make the nest. how long will it take until the they start spawning?

Wow, you're better off than I.

You should just start off with half the water to reduce stress later on.

What do you mean by "when"? When you have room for the fry, when the female has eggs, when the male has a bubble nest, etc.

You don't have to lower the water until after the fry are hatched.

This is done to make it easier on the little fry while they are developing their labyrinths.

how long does it take to make the nest and how long does it take for the female to release her eggs.

so how long does the whole process take before the eggs are in the nest?

the male has been chasing her around for the pass 3 days and still nothing.

What are you feedng them? What type of gourami are you attempting to breed?
Usually if the female is ready and they have been properly conditioned and separated for a few days within a couple of days of reintroducing the female you will have a succesful breeding. Is the female full of eggs? if not separate the two and feed them well...live, frozen food for about 3-4 days then put them back together and see what happens.

Are your gouramis both mature? If you aren't sure, wait a while longer. It's a shame your female was injured. I've never had that happen and I've bred 3 spots several times.

Try putting the female into the breeding tank and conditioning her there with the male somewhere else. Then when you put the male in, he will be entering her territory and be a little less aggressive. I was told to do this some time ago, and have have had success with that method.

What will you be feeding the fry once they are born. In my experience, raising the tiny fry was much harder than getting the parents to spawn.
