I have seen this in buniwebs tank, and i was just wondering , as this is a fine gravel, would it create those bad gases forming ?

The reason i ask is i am thinking about the aquascape for my future 6x2x2, and want to create a hill type section in the tank, using rocks are quartz gravel, so the quartz gravel is going to be in hard to reach areas, where I would no be able to stir it, if it was to create bad gases

Also, this type of sand or gravel, (not sure if it should be called gravel or sand)but bunijweb inhis 6x2x2 tank calls it gravel,

WOuld it be purchased at pool shops ?

Only 1 person has actually bothered to take a read of my thread !

Hi saboy, I have very small quartz gravel, I dont stir it , when i do a gravel clean i just shove the cleaner right into it .I haven't had any problems with it ,my plants seem to be growing OK.
I bought mine at a local fish shop called Aquajardin in Southampton.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, the type of substrate I want is a fine gravel, so that stirring is not needed,

Im going to build it up in areas, so this is good

i think persoanlly if i was building up a hill of gravel id put some bigger grain stuff at the bottom and then the finer stuff on top.

even if its an 1"-2" deep it would help.

i have crushed coral in one of my tanks and that must be about 1mm.

its surprising how smaller depth it takes to compress it down so the water doesnt penetrate it.

the problem with what you said sam is that the finer stuff falls through the bigger grain , then the bigger grain ends on top

Nah, I wouldnt want to do anything like that, I want to use rocks, then fill in the area's, with the quartz gravel.
