How about a powerhead for my 55 gallon. It's not much, like 10 dollars I think. But what does it do, beside circulate water and make a current?

$10!!! What brand is that? I paid $80! Of course I see you are American, where everything is much cheaper........ and yeah, that's what powerheads do, circulate the water, make some current........ My oscar loves it!

If you have a lot of fish that enjoy a faster moving current, or you feel the need for more surface agitation (and thus more opportunity for gas exchange) then go for it. If you have a CO2 system though I'd avoid the surface agitation bit.

I just wanted to give my Danio's something to swim against and to make my plants move a bit. I also have 3 baby angelfish, which I don't know if they'd like the current but I don't know think it would be fine?

I think it is actually around 20 dollars, but still better than the 80 dollars.
