I was just looking on another fish forum and there was a question about having a power head attatched to the uplift tube of a UGF, no real answer or explaination was given but it said that this could ruin the fishless cycle :-(
Is this true? and if so why, is it bad to use a power head on a UGF could explain a lot if it is but i cant see why :/

Powerheads just provide more consistent water circulation for the UGF. I can't see using one as a way of ruining your cycle. A lack of water circulation would do that much more quickly as the bacteria need oxygen to survive.

Just make sure any added water is conditioned and free of any medicines or chlorines since these WILL stall or reset the cycle. Also make sure the surface of the water is being well agitated, add an airstone or wand if you don't think there is enough movement up there. The surface is where gas exchange takes place and water movement is what provides the oxygen in the water.
