I have two and they're lovely little plecs. Pretty much like the L134's once they've settled in after about 2 months. Mine swim around during dinner time, muscling in for food and our female swims around sometimes just to make mommy happy.

Smith RC - I'm not sure aboout the 174's being 400's. I have seen a 400 and it was far more striking than the 174's.

Really want a 400. If you ever think of selling let me know.

sure... they were young in these photos, They were imported as L173's but at the time the closest match I could find was L236's (hence the ??'s on the page)
Since then the L400's have been calssified and they look like a lot better match.
(we've hoping to breed them in the long term)

You have some gorgeous plecs there. Wow Have you been able to get them to spawn yet?? How many males and females do you have?? Is that one third from the left at the top on pic 2 female?? Looks really big and fat.

Hi Carmen,

I've only had them for just on 3 weeks and they were all really fat when I purchased them. I've never seen them eat but they remain fat, so I guess they do eat in private. I believe I have a mix of males and females but have only positively identified 2 males as having Odontodes. 2 of my L134's are too small to sex at this stage.

They have not spawned in this short period. I gave them a 3 week dry season and have just started the wet season for them by lowering the TDS & temp.

I'm hoping to see some action in the next few weeks, if not, I'll wait afew months then try again.

I really hope you are successful. They are incredible and it would be lovely to see a spawning diary for these gorgeous plecs.

Mine took a while to settle down and eat in front of me. I've had them about 2 months and 1 comes out readily and gobbles his/her food without worrying about me. So they should settle eventually.

as it happens I was reading your post (and wondering about my shy L134's) when I looked up to see one of the smaller ones out and nibbling on a piece of whitebait I dropped in the tank for dinner. First time I've seen one eating.
