i have a female cherry barb that does not seem well
when you look at her you can see her intestines look red,she feeds well and is sometimes active.but most of the time she keeps her self to her self, and sometimes hides away,i dont want too loose her but im worried if my other 4 cherries will catch it if it is a disease.i only have a small tank 35L
hence only 5 barbs, but its only been running 4 weeks.

is your tank cycled?

how recently did you get these fish? since the tank has only been running for 4 weeks.

what are the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels?

and 35l is very small for that many barbs, they can get to 4cm each....

how many do you think i should keep? all levels seem ok

well ive read the general rule is 2l per cm of fish. so u may get 5 4cm barbs making 40l needed so mabey you should keep 3 or 4. anyway, did you buy these fish recently?

yes about 4 days ago.i gave the tank some time to settle in,and have 2 live plants in it.

well, did you notice any dead or "ill acting" fish in the display tank they were taken from? she may just be settling in. any updates on her situation?

the fish supplier is one of the best, maybe i should give her sometime and see what happens.
she could still be finding her feet {fins},or maybe ive got a bad fish.ill keep an eye on her and see what happens.after all it takes some time for the tank to settle, maybe i was to hasty putting them all in at once.do you think i should take one out,so as others can survive,or should i try and carry on

well, i would leave it for a while, if she dies or gets worse then you have a problem. otherwise lets wait for the REAL experts to comment (i do no my stuff btw! been keeping fish for a long time)

Take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

Do you only have cherry barbs in the tank.

Does the fish look bloated or thin.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.
Is the anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Does the fish swim on it side, or tilt to oneside.
Any worms prutruding from the anus.
Is the spine bending.
Does the fish look pale or darker in colour.
Is the fish acting listless and lethagic.
Is the fish resting on the substrate.

she looks ok
sometimes a bit listless but sometimes ok,she feeds normally and looks normal apart from a slightly red colour on her intestines[maybe normal for her]
perhaps i should wait and see what happens, she could be still settling in.

I would get your water tested.
For now water changes and increase aeration.
