Plecos can be found in several waters in Surinam. I've caught some myself last year. Plecos are an invasive species overthere. But the Surinamese people have found their way with them just by consuming them...

Although, we love them as being fish in our tanks, it must be said that the reality is that like also other fish these fish are also meant to eat. A very common fish to put on the plate. When I was overthere, I had my first time of eating pleco.

Yuck. Having said that Discus are also a common food in south america; though i would never eat one.

Are all those people in the picture still alive and well? I take it one of them is you?

You actually devoured one ! ? ! ? Did you use a pectoral fin ray for a toothpick ?
I sure did... Well, those finrays are really sturdy enough to use as toothpicks. But The chef did cut the fins from those fish.

LOL! I do have to admit that once a friend of mine who lives partially in South America did show once how they put discus on a bbq. But I haven't tried those. And I can say almost for sure that I also won't do that.

Yes, they are. And I'm the one in the brown shirt on the left. But I can imagine how weird it must look to us that such fish are just common consumer fish to locals. For we only associate them with fish tanks. I've got also Indonesian influence in me. And I do have to say that also in Indonesia, certain fish that we see as ornamental aquarium fish are meant as consumer fish overthere.

I will say in truth while I enjoy certain fishes as a diet such as tuna and halibut; and i know people who catch catfishes around here (not not the ones commonly found in aquariums); i have never enjoyed any species of catfish in my diet though we did have a cat who loved to eat them. After all there is a reason why 'cat' is in the name of those fishes - they purrrrfect for your favorite kitty.

For me they have too much oil and other gunk in the taste. Hum. oh well at least i know what to do with my pleco when i get tired of them; just rehome them with emerald king.
