Playsand?

I am preparing to purchase sand for my aquarium since i am tired of gravel. I am looking in to buying play sand, but im not sure how safe it will be for my fish, any help on how to make it clean?

cleaning sand well put it in a bucket and swish it in the water until the water comes clear or slightly cludy and wa-la... also instead of purchasing playsand.. u can go to ur local park and get it.. its the same thing(at least it is here). LOL.. they will never know its gone.. LOL...

Don't go to the local park and pick up sand there. A cat could have used that as a litter box!!! Purchase some clean stuff. Throw it in a pillow case and rinse it for a couple hours with a house that has a wide stream on it. Took mine a couple years ago about an hour to clear up.

First off, theft = bad, and second, you have no idea what could be in the sand. I may just live in a bad area, but I see people pouring beer into the local park's sandbox constantly.

Besides, it's cheap. $3.50 for 50 lbs. I didn't wash my play sand at all and it took about 3 days to completely clear up.

hmm.. Is my county's the only park well mannerd?? LOL.. theres is someone at the park 24/7 and animals arn't allowed in.. LOL... fence around the whole thing and cops watching it all day and night so.. it's asafe park and free of cats and dogs... but yea do whatever u want.. people liek to burst others bubbles.. whatever..

lol well its wierd that u need that much survalence on a park.. but i have to say the parks around here are perfectly fine aswell... (halifax,, NS,, Canada ) and i mean who cares if "theft = bad" its not like the city dont deserve it or ur a major criminal cuz u took sand for a fishtank....

only calcite sand will affect ur pH
because it is ground up rock from rock made from the compression of old shells
you want to look for silicate sand which wont or shouldnt mess with ur pH and will also be very fine grained sand

true. i got all my nice gravel from the playground at the school. i took about half a 5 gallon pail. went there around midnight and nobody saw nothin, and nobody missed nothin. i cleaned it like usual with water in a bucket and there was no problem. it's been in my tank for years. i'm also going to do the same with sand soon. i also want a change. i love a good bargain!

b/c they keep the place clean and refill sand every three- four weeks i presume... Heck, you can even get ducks from the other park and they wouldn't care...(depends ont he eprson)

security? no security! sometimes punks go there and drink booze, smoke crack or enchant hookers. i like to be alone on these missions, no audience.
