I've had both male and female platys in my tank over the years. I'vce always found that when I introduce a male platy to the tank it will hid in the back of the tank and only venture out after a few days when it becomes secure of its surroundings. Whereas any females I've introduced have always happily swam about from the moment they've entered the tank.

It would seems to me that female platys are more bold initially, has anyone else noticed this??

Now that you mention it, it's pretty much the same way for me as well. I recently purchased a male platy and it took him roughly 3-4 days to come out of hiding. As when I bought a few females they plopped in and swam everywhere right away. Kind of weird huh?

I've never had female platys, just out of coincidence I manage to pick males. :(

Edit: Oh wait, I just got a juvy female platy and she's a robust little girl! I can't really remember the first time I got my males, though, since that was ages ago.

yeah, as i think about it, my male guppies were a little afraid at first. would it be because there in a new territory and there not sure if there may be another male that may want to attack them?
