hi, i need some info about a possible iness in the tank. i noticed a platy flicking off things (rubbing). so i shoved it in the quarantine tank, on further inspection it seems tha there is some minor finrot to the tail fin (dont know the proper name)! i have anti fungus and fin rot stuff, so i dosed both tanks. is the flicking due to the finrot or is this another seperate thing.

Tank size: 120l quarantine/hospital 38l.
Water Stats: normal, no ammonia, nitrates and nitries same as ever. water is reasonably hard, but that is because of where i live. i have never had an issue with this before, i have been following my normal routine of W/C
tank temp: 24C hosp tank: 28C (upped slowly from 24.)

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): as at the top of post, flicking and a bit lethargic, no real loss of colour. still able to swim and 'fight the flow' of the filter. (i do have low flow rest places!)

Volume and Frequency of water changes: about 30% every 3 or 4 days.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: no carbon as i dose TPN and DIY CO2. noraml juwel sponges and filter floss.

Tank inhabitants: 2 mollies, multiple platies (around 6 or 7) 6 gold barbs, 3 harlequins, 1 otto, 6 neons, 5 WCMM, 2 clown plecs, amano shrimp, 3 black neons.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): none!!! i took out a fluval 2+ and put that in the QT. (replacing a 1+), and put a 4+ into the main tank to supplement the juwel filter. (that will be cycling for my new tank!)

Exposure to chemicals: none, normal WC. i put a bit of salt in to revent the disease and plus live bearers like it.

Someone on here will have a better idea than me but when you said flicking the first thing that i thought was Ich.

ok thanks, it just with the forum being SOO slow, not many pepole are bothering comming on.

Finrot can be a secondary infection.
Any excess slime on the fish body.
Check the gills to see if there inflamed or pale with excess mucas.
Any sores on the fish body.
Is the fish laboured breathing.
Does she flick alot.
Does she look thin or bloated.
Check her anus to see if it enlarged or red and inflamed.
What does it look like when she goes to the toilet.
Are her fins clamped to her body.

only saw her filicked once. everything else is fine, fins are a bit clamped but everything else is normal, all the platies still eat and still take food from my hand.

If she only flick once dosn't sound like a parasite.
Clamped fins are a sign of stress and desease.
The interpet finrot meds not that good on finrot.
Waterlife med myxazin far better.
