Not really about aquatic plants but house plants. Would it be harmful to house plants to water them with discarded fish tank water? With all the effluence it may even be beneficial?

no the old tank water is a great plant food , i've loads of house plants
and when i do the water change i always use the water for the plants
they realy thrive on it,

hey, nice tip - can feed and water my bonsai at the same time

    it would do the bonsia the world of good :p

hope so, I normally use organic fertilizer (won't say what it smells like here :S ) or chicken pellets (unsightly).

Its got nitrates in it (old tank water) which plants use to make their proteins. It is also what farmers use in fertilisers (ammonium nitrate) So yes put it on your plants and watch them shoot up :D

hehe, don't want em to shoot up William - need them to stay small but healthy - winters coming so shal try it in the spring :)

'shoot up' i don't want my plants doing that. Its bad enough seeing junkies doing it on my way to work!
