Plants in sand

How to do you grow plants when you have sand as the substrate? Also, anyone heard of a plant called Valesnarian or Yalesnarian? I got some for 1$ today but I dont know what it is and I dont know how to plant it

I have a fairly new tank with sand, and the plants are doing so much better than the plants in the tank with gravel. Just stick the plants in the sand just like you would stick them in gravel! Never heard of the plant you mention... does it have roots, or what? Some of my plants don't have roots but they just get stuck into the substrate like the others, and they do just fine.

That sounds like Vallisneria (or Vallis). Just plant the roots into the sand and take care so that the crown (the bumpy bit just above the roots) is above the sand.
