Hi all...

Is it better to leave plants in their little pots with mineral wool or put them straight into the gravel? The pots keep working their way out of the gravel and look awful. The Fish Store guy said to leave them in the pots
Suggestions?

hi silver, I saw an article about that and for the life of me can't find it Rose shoud be in later -she's our plant guru

shall await the answer too

I take them out of the pots due to it looking nicer (sp) and it gives the roots room to grow and make the plants huge. Down side is it makes it hard to do gravel vacs (not that you want to do a lot of them or do them real well in a planted tank.) It also makes moveing the plants harder when it needs to be done.

I have done it both ways and have found that they do better overall when they are planted in a nutrient rich substraight and not in the plastic pots. If you do need to keep them in pots for a while you can always put them in unglazed terricotta pots, and use gravel to keep them rooted there. Rose

Silveradam I asked the same question a week back and did as Rose suggested by putting them directly into the gravel, works like a charm, my plants are doing much better. Thanks Rose.

Just shifting over to plant section :)

Sorry....posted that question in the wrong place. I'll figure this out eventually.
I'll try taking the plants out of thier pots, sounds like that's the most successful. I assume I plant them at the same depth the stems were in the pots.

Plant the roots as deep as you can. They will have extra stability and won't be able to be uprooted as easily that way. Rose
