Today at a garden center i saw some API pH down solution and i thought it might be a good idea as my tap water is 7.6 pH.

Does anyone have any experience with this stuff ?

Is it any good ?

Can it be added to a tank that already has fish in it ?

Thank you for reading.

instead of using chemical additives like ph down, i'd get some driftwood or something else to naturally lower the ph.

I have got some driftwood but it doesnt seem to have any real effect on the pH

If your fish appear happy and healthy then don't even bother adjusting PH.

Stable ph that is reasonably close to what the fish likes is much better than a constantly changing ph. It is incredibly hard to maintain a stable ph using chemicals. Attempting to adjust the ph with chemicals often results in dead fish.

However, if you are keeping fish with specific requirements i.e. the Golden Ram, Discus - it might be an idea to soften the water slightly to maximize life span.

One easier and more cost-effective way of doing this is to add peat media to your filter [easier if you have a cannister], which can also be good for plants too.
