I can see you have put some thought into this but tbh, not meaning to be too harsh it is a bit 'snap shot'. You need to think more about composition (more space above and right) and experiment with different angles. Also consider the background too which in this case is a little distracting. Your camera meter has allowed a bit of overexposure if you can dial this down (normally EV +/- in menu) then you could reduce this a bit.
Have you joined any
photo forums? Posting your shots will get you a lot of feedback and you will quickly learn by commenting on others work too.
Also download picasa not only is this great for organizing photos but it is a great place to start refining your pictures before moving on to more complicated stuff.
