Penguin 150 issue?

No idea if this is normal or an issue (maybe I assembled it wrong?). Water is coming out like normal through the biowheel portion but the trough in the middle (circled red) also has water coming out. Thanks

Nope! I have the same filter, just means you are getting a lot of intake and the overflow is coming out that. If you don't like it, you can try closing the strainer (the little thing like 1/8 down from the main filter).

If it is clogged just get a bucket of tank water, make sure its tank water, chlorinated water will kill your bacteria. Then swish the cartridge around in there for a little and it will get the big chunks out and help your flow along.

Ok, thanks for the reply. My concern was it would seem that water isn't actually being filtered but I suppose of most of the water being sucked up the tube into the system is being filtered, that's ok.

you need to clean your cartridge...the flow coming out of the valley is unfiltered water

Got it. The filter has only been running a week so strange it would be overly dirty/clogged but I'll give it a try.
