Peat substrate

I would like to know if any of you guys have used peat as a substrate. Im plannig to go out and buy more plants(swords and vals) and i wanted to enrich my soil even more.

I already have a gravel mixed with laterite. I wanted to go soil, but i found this to be inconvenient on my part. Anyways. Thanks.

I haven't put turf to bottom, but some finnish hobbiests have and they have told, that plants grow well. When I buy another tank, I will try that too:
