Hello! I was in a nice LFS recently and saw "pea puffers." I thought they were absolutely adorable, and I begged my other (and better!) half to let me have yet another tank so I could keep them. He said no, but agreed that *maybe* I could have it for my birthday. Since that's several months away, I thought I'd use the time to gather information on these beguiling little fish. From what I gathered at the LFS, they were freshwater. Are all puffers brackish? Since they are rather small, would a US 10 gallon (38 L) be sufficient to keep one or two little puffers? Lastly, from my research, I read that they can show aggression, and I was wondering if it would be possible to keep two in the same tank? Thank you so much; I look forward to any answers, advice and recommendations! :hyper:

They're freshwater, you'd be able to keep 2 in a tank of 10 gallons, just make sure it is densely planted and there are plenty of hiding places as they will fight, I bought them thinking they'd be all cute but I have found them to be the most boring fish I've ever kept, but that's just my opinion.

That's a shame! Everything I've read said they're social and intelligent and are very interesting to keep. Reading can be misleading, though, so I'm glad you've answered honestly. I've still got loads to learn before I even decide on them.

That's just how mine behave, my water quality is good, I gave them everything they need and they loiter like mindless reprobates in the bottom corners of the tank, if you have a 10 gallon a red-eyed puffer would also be suitable, they get to about 1.5 inches, they're a bit more active than Pea Puffers and are much more fun to keep.
