I have 2 Rena XP4's on my Rena 2metre tank.

But theres always particles in the water.

The filters have mechanical filters, polywool, carbon but still the water is full of bits.

What can I do? considering 1 is spose to be good enough.

I used to get that, I now have 3 in total, 2 of them are really just mechanical filters though. I bought the eheim aquaball for polishing the water and its doing a great job.

1 Will be big enough biologically, but mechanically it depends what fish / substrate etc you have.

Is it an algae/bacterial bloom? Or actual inorganic particles such as silt?

You can buy chemicals called flocculants that make the particles stick together and easy to filter out, but I don't know how safe they are towards the bacterial filter. I'm sure some other more knowledgeable members do.

a few of us on here with big tanks use eheim 2252s powerline internals(one at each end)
fill some of the compartments with polyfilter and your water will be crystal :good:

Hi Rodders :)

How often do you rinse off or replace your filter media?

When new or freshly rinsed off media is used, the spaces between the strands are large and bits of loose debris can float in and out among them. If you let them get dirty, at least sort of shy of obstructing the water flow, smaller and smaller particles with become trapped and removed from the water circulation.

The only way to get Gin clear water is to filter/polish it using a Diatomic Filter. Which will also help with disease control such as "Ich". (Whitespot) as well as many others.

I just cleaned them out last week to try help make the water cleaner.

Its pretty clear now, I can see the back of the tank really good, but theres still loads of bits, I guess its where the fish dig in the coarse sand and that, but the filters dont seem to draw enough of it away.

API do something similar callled Aquaclear.

Might pop to the LFS and give that binding agent a go!
