I found paracitic crustaceans on my Takifugu occelatus when I did a freshwater dip. They turned white and died instantly! Not sure what exactly they are. I wiill add photos in a sec.

0.5 CM IN LENAGTH., most are smaller....

Takifugu occelatus are tough as nails! His eyes and face was swollen over with infections, he is still alive! I did a freshwater dip and the lice died instantly. One of his eyes is completely better, and the skin on his face is getting better. Hopefully the other eye should be okay tomarrow. This morning he was lying upside down on the bottom of the tank, His equilibrium is back now! :good: I do not no how, but he may pull through.

Difficult to tell from that drawing, but I suspect it's a "fish louse" (Argulus spp.) or "sea louse" (Caligus spp.) similar to those you find on farmed salmon. Not particularly dangerous, though I'm glad you were able to shift yours. Abrupt changes in salinity do the trick, as you've discovered.

When my (freshwater) puffers got sick from some mystery slime disease, I gave them a couple of 10 minute seawater dips, and that cleared it up. Puffers are very tolerant of changes in salinity, but external parasites tend not to be, so this is a good, safe tool to use when keeping them.

Cheers, Neale

i agree with it being a fish louse, theyre a pale greeny colour, horrible things!
