I'm looking for a species of killifish that can be kept as a pair permanently in a 2.5 gallon aquarium. I was looking specifically at Nothobranchus rachovii. Is this possible? If not, do you have any other species that you would suggest? Thanks!

Im not sure about this, but I thought the Nothobranchus rachovii was an annual fish. Ive read a little about the annual killifish and ive never hear about them not being able to live together in pairs. Sorry if im wrong though....

Rachovi would be a wrong choice for you, You would need to be feeding varied livefoods and making provisions for such. Youd have to provide some sort of breeding set up as these are true annuals and substrate spawners one male one female will not work IMHO.
I would look toward Ps. annulatus. But a small body of water requires a higher amount of maintenance to keep things sweet.
