right now i have filtration for 70 gallons on my 29 gallon.

and honestly my tank couldn't be cleaner. I've never had a single outbreak of ich either.

all my fish are happy and healthy...aside from the fact i overfeed them....(i nkow i know but i can't help it!)

does anyone else over filter?

I have 2 filters on my 33 gallon. Both together even at low are enough for a 60 gallon tank. Right now it's enough fora 70 gallon, lol. My tank is nice and healthy now, and I don't think too much filtration is a bad thing.

I'm running the normal trickle filter in the hood of my Aqua One tank, plus a Fluval 3+ internal - I think too much filtration is when the current becomes too strong for your fish.

Ich is a pathogenic parasite that is almost completely unrelated to filter issues and all to do with it being in the tank and reproducing. Measuring your filter's effectiveness against ich outbreaks is a bit like measuring your car's sat-nav against how many times the USAF has bombed you.

As mnentioned below, over filtration is only a problem once flow rate gets too high, housing media is always good to overfilter. My 6x2x2 could probably be replaced by an 8x4 without any need for more filtration, though the pump would need uprating for a better flow rate.

Overfiltering is the first step to safe overstocking, and most filters aren't much cop when used at the higher end of the suggested tank size.
