Hi

I was just wondering if any of you have experiened the same.

I introduced 5 otos into my 50l cycled tank.
ammonia and nitrite are 0, nitrates between 5-10 ph: 6.6...........so levels not really a prob.

When i introduced them hey first hid, after 5 min were sucking on the plants and glass and now, 3 h later they re dashing around, not staying put for more than 15sec.
I put some cucumber and algae wafer in as i thougt maybe they cant find the algae they like...or enough of it to stay still. They havent even notices it yet.

They re dashing up and down around the whole tank as though they re freaking out because they are trapped.

Anyone have any ideas why???

all my new fish dash back and forth in my tank, hope it learns how to eat other food other than algae since i could never do it which lead to.... well i wont say it.....

Thanks :)

Well, there s loads of algae, but mostly brown and not the soft green one.
As long as its normal that they first dash around its ok then.

Uff,.. i was panicking as the tests were all normal and they were behaving atypical as to what i read.

They have already calmed down slightly, still dashing around but not quite as hectic :D

yeh I wouldnt worry, once innitial fear has passed, curiosity reigns supreme :p

Thanks :)

thats good, brown algae is their favorite

Did you slowly acclimate them to the tank water when you put them in your tank?

You can also turn of the lights so they feel more secure.

No, the bag was leaking when i arrived home so i did it within 15min.

They were fine and calmly eating algae the first few hours, only started dashing around 25min before i posted so acclimisation didnt seem to cause it. They first were a bit scared and didnt come out until 5min later but i guess that's pretty normal. Or could it be like an after effect?

They seem more or less fine now. Most of them are calmly eating on top of the amazon sword leaves or bogwood :D

I'll try the light one anyway ;)

Just remember that otos don't eat JUST vegetation. They also need a little meat in their diet. If you have other fish in there they will probaly just eat some of the leftover food.
