Hi there everyone!!

Just bidding on a new tank dimensions as followed 5ft x 1ft x 1 1/2ft Not sure how much that is in gallons

Well i have always wanted 2 oscars and now my reality might kick in I am having a large tank and am deciding what to put into it?? Know this tank will not be wide enough for a full grown oscar to turn in but hopefully can upgrade in few years how fast do they grow?? I would buy 1" oscars tiny ones so any tank mates that will grow together too?? what pleco is best at the moment i have a 6" common

Anyone with oscars I am after the
GOOD AND BAD so i can decide

DO these bite??? Always wanted a shoal of pirahna but as my 3 yr old likes both my tanks i wouldnt risk it

If i calculated it right, you probably have a 55 gal tank. To small for even 1 oscar. Sorry. Hopefully someone will come along and double check my calculation to be certain.

very true the tank will not be wide enough for oscars, if I were you I would probably look at new world species that get around 8 inches or in that neighborhood, good examples would be Jack dempseys, cuban cichlids, I am also sure that there are probably some pike cichlids that don't really get over 8 inches. as far as pirhanas bitting depends on the species some are more prone to it than others, I have always found that red bellies were realy scardy pants and would run at the first hint of anything in their tank that wasnt a fish.

I am scowering ebay as we speak for a
4ft x 2 x 2 or a 5ft x 2 x 2

With no joy yet but i will keep looking I am determined before i am 30 i am having 2 new friends.

Will come back with questions as soon as i have my tank sorted??

Can anyone tell me how to add my tank pic to this bit where you write?? been trying last hour and cant work out how to put it here?

No, PlecoStrum can have an oscar. Their called Albino Dworf Oscars. I've seen them in both of my LFS. From what I gathered from the owners/managers is that they only get about 6 inches long. I don't think thats right though but I'ts around there I believe. Well I'll do some research to see if the Albino Dworfs I saw are actualy oscars.

Don't get mad at me if i'm wrong

Dont take this the wrong way, but i dont think there is a such thing as a dwarf oscar, there selling as that to make more profit selling them to people with smaller tanks.

I haven't seen one either. Although there have been a lot of hybrid oscars coming into the market lately - blueberry oscars, long-finned oscars are a couple. It wouldn't suprise me if someone figured out what to do to keep oscars from growing large though.

yea I have seen those long finned oscars. Their so beautiful! Nice white when their young then they get the traditional red in them. Takes my breath away when i goto the petshop and see the big female in their 100g. She plays with pingpong balls :). They also tought her tricks! The lady at the counter said Oh my gosh you have to see whet I tought the oscar! She took out a pice of bread and ripped a piece off and then she put it up to the side of the tank. The oscar did a flip then a cork sqrew! OMG those are so inteligent when it comes to treats :D
