I dont no why but ever since my black shark died my oscar now is always attacking the rock that the black shark used to hide in. Like full speed hits and trying to take bites out of it. He also does the same with another beice of bogwood I have. Its annoying because i have to keep fixing it. Can anyone explain this behavoir?

Maybe it thinks the bog wood and the rock killed your black shark?

maybe he misses the company...........or was it rivalry he used to have with the shark???

I'd put it down to territory issues, when the black shark was alive no doubt he used to guard his spot against the oscar, so now the sharks gone the oscars making it clear that, that patch is now his aswell.

When I moved my oscar he was attacking/mouthing rocks, flowerpots and wood until every was how he wanted and the other new tank mates knew he was boss.

Will probable calm it down in a week or so.

Hopefully, its quite annoying having to move everything back. The funny part is there isnt any other territorial fish in the tank, so he doesnt have much to prove.

Oh and quick question, would it be okay to put a new black shark in the tank or would the oscar attack him out of territory because it would be a new fish to the tank??

I have and Oscar myself (had two at one point but attacking each other issues). He likes to constantly face off with himself and the stones i have in there. He'll smim above it with his mouth open and then dive into it trying to bite it. Crazy fool! He also squares off with himself at the side of the tank where he can see himself. He always calms down after a bit, i just leave him to it. He went through a phase of it when i removed the other Oscar. Calmed down now though :good:

Also a fair point to make (as i discovered yesterday) don't put snail shells (empty) into your tank as he'll eat them. Mine grabbed it up, sucked it in, and was trying to suck the now-nothing out that was supposed to be inside. Telling ya now..Oscars = Crazy Fools! :hyper:
