Hi all,
I’m looking to set up a 120g (4x2x2) at some point in the near future and was hoping for some of your opinions on the possible stocking.
I was hoping to include the following, and based upon the 1 inch per gallon guidelines it shouldn’t be overstocked – not quite sure if the 1 inch per gallon is for US or UK though.

4 x Cardinal Tetras
4 x Guppies
4 x Golden Barbs
2 x Black Widows
2 x Swordtails
2 x Boeseman’s Rainbows
2 x Angel Fish
2 x Clown Loaches
2 x Pearl Gouramies
1 x RTBS
1 x Common Plec
Any thoughts?
Cheers :drinks:

I'm not too sure but i think the clown loaches might be stifled with that many fish in that size tank, they might grow a bit big-but see what other folks say on here to be sure...... :/

Cheers mate, that was the big question mark for me too. Really like these fish though, seem to have loads of personality, and make a fair bit of noise too! :)

Was hoping to get some that were a little older and towards the 1.5 to 2 inch mark. Might just get away with it then, but not going to rush into it if I can't find any.

2 x Black Widows
2 x Swordtails
2 x Boeseman’s Rainbows

The above fish are all shoaling so should be kept in groups of 5 or more

yeah, up the widows, and rainbows to around 6, I think clown loaches have to be in groups as well, so you may not be able to have them, I wouldn't bother with the plec, they get massive and poo so much, the guppies would probably get shredded.

Cheers Darkentity. Had an idea the Black Widows were but didn't realise Swordtails and Rainbows were. ????
If I upped the numbers do you think it would take it over the stocking limits?

Thanks Demonmagus, doesn't look good for the clowns then! Really hoped they would be OK
Already have the plec (inherited) in my smaller tank at the moment, and really don't want to give him up unless I really have to. What do you think will have a go at the guppies?

the guppies - deffo black widows, and angels, and possibly the gouramies and rainbows, also the shark

the plec might be able to go in the tank but could grow to 2 foot  also they are poop machines so take up both physical and bioload room.

I'm not to sure on the clowns, they grow really slowly, your tank is deffo big enough for fully grown anyway but I think you could have them

Thanks everyone, certainly giving me food for thought. May think about leaving the guppies and cardinals out then, just to be on the safe side.
Have to keep my eye on the plec. Though I say he is common, I cannot say for sure if this is correct information!! He is about 6 inches long now, so does this mean it's not a BN (also no bristles)? I have tried unsucessfully what exact type he is, and afraid I can't post a pic at the mo. He is a very light brown/yellow although his shading does change slightly depending on his mood. Any thoughts? ????

EDIT: spelling!

Watch out with the RTS, I've heard they get aggressive when larger. Personally, I would get about 4 clown loaches, 2 or 3 angelfish, 1 Pearl Gourami, and a large group of smaller shoaling fish, maye Rummy Nose Tetras, about 12 of them. That's about 80 inches, I think. So maybe a group of 5 Bosemani's Rainbows and another type of tetra, like Black Neons, if you can find them big enough, or a livebearer like you wanted.

Sounds good! :good: Yeah, read about the RTBS but had a mate that had one for donkeys years and although it was a bit grumpy at times and likes his own cave, he never had any serious problems. Hope that with all the space and the bogwood and rocks I hope to put in, it should be OK.
Got me thinking now!! :hyper:
