So with all the excitement of moving my fish into a new tank and all the mess that goes along with it, I did not remember to close one of the covers on the new tank. Well when I woke up this morning I checked the tank to see how the fish were but didnt see my pleco right away. Well I was running late so thought he was just hidding so I left. Well its now 2 hours later and I get a call at work that my girlfriend cant find him in the tank. I get a call another hour later and she tells me that she found him. 15' from the tank by the front door. He was out of the tank for atleast 3 hours. Well he was still alive so she dumped him back in and hes been doing great.

Never happend to me before but I just thought I would share :)

In had an expierence once where my male opaline gourami jumped out of a container i HAD to put him in due to a problem with his normal tank,, well i got home and he had bounded onto my mousepad, then onto the floor.. and was lying there breathing but had been out so long everything including him was dry. i guess he lived because gouramis, like bettas, need air to live anyways..

Plecostomus have very adaptable gills. While gouramis have labrynth organs allowing them to breed fresh air for extended periods. I think thats what you meant as all living creatures except for certain anearobic bacteria, need air/oxygen to live.
