:( I just got back from Pet-Co and found out that they are selling "Fresh Water Snowflake Eels" and guess what, not a single salesperson said anything to the 7 people, including myself, about them having to be in brackish when they get bigger, they are about 8" long right now and I can guarantee these fish will be dead in a month if not before that... :grr:

very true when not moved in strong brackish conditions at that size they start to starve themselves.

i think petco's also distributing incorrect literature on them. mine's had them posted as being for sale for a couple of months now. when i pointed out their brackish needs to the "most knowledgable" of their staff, he blew me off by saying that they could be acclimated to pure freshwater.

they actually had some in a week ago or so; it looked to be a foot long already, but it was hard to tell with the way it was all balled-up in the corner. :/

These guys are the same idiots that tried to sell me guppys to go in with my convicts. LOL

no, they aren't. that was one store and probably one salesperson who gave you rotten advice. there's a difference between repeated stocking and care issues that occur company-wide and one idiot who may have only been selling fish for a week.

it is manifestly unfair to accuse a entire company of incompetence based on something one employee says.

I live in a large metro area. we have petco, petsmart, walmart and many more large companies in this area. ;Every one of them that i have gone too have been a horror. I have even worked for a few of them and i couldn't stand the way they did bussiness. I think i'll stick with my LFS.

As far as i am concerned it is the same thing. these large companies have the facilites and money to make sure that their workers are TRAINED to give GOOD advice.

I've had more training in resteraunts then i EVER did from a pet store of any kind. that is sad cuz in pet stores you are dealing with LIVE animals and not chicken wings. LOL

No offence ment, but the person buying the fish is as much of an "idiot" as the store which sells it too him.

Research and KNOW about fish in general and these occurances will never happen.

Simple solution - don't patronize stores who lack good conditions for thier fish. If they don't get enough people buying, it will stop. It starts with YOU as the consumer. I'll go to my local LFS any day over Wallmart.
