i went out and swapped my very aggressive baby blue gourami with an older much, much larger blue gourami in the store!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she's so peacful and doesn't harm a soul!!!!!!!!!!!
don't you love when things work out?
the manager said she was around 6 months old (which was good cause i feared that she might be older)

i also checked out the female bettas at the small business petstore across the street that is "supposed" to be knowledgable (sorry if spelling is wrong) and i was disgusted!!!!!!!!!
the woman had no idea what she was talking about and as we walked pass a couple tanks with LONG DEAD fish in them rotting away she laughed and said "oh yeah i keep forgetting about those guys" in a air head voice....
i was so frustrated i felt like offering to scoop them for her!!!!!!!

then when we got to the female betta tanks they were full of little dead fuzzy fish (really bad fungus) and she was like "there should be one live one in there"....
i was like "no thanks" and totally choked on my words and walked out...

There are lots of stores like that, unfortunately. The people there just get enough training to scoop the fish up and put them into bags. There are exceptions, but around here there are far too many of the former.

At least you know where not to go next time.

I haven't ever been anywhere that bad yet. I hope I never come across that.

Head out to your local Walmart. If the fish there aren't nearly as bad, then they are taking very good care of their fish. The ones around here have the same problems, and one of them had ick and fungus in almost each and every single tank.

the very first pet store i worked at was a small business.
my boss didn't like me cause i'm not religious (i know that religious people are NOT like that but he was one of those cultish acceptions )
i had the most knowledge out of all of his employees (back in highschool! )
both customers AND employees always asked for my help or advice but the boss still put me in the back putting away cans and dog food!!!!!!!!!!
when he couldn't break my spirit (i'm good at being cheery, even when people are big meanies!) he finally laid me off!
when i went back there a few weeks later he had this really ditzy girl working in my place!
i asked if they had any crowntail betta splendids in and she was like "betta?" and looked around scared and confused!!!!!!!!!!

about a month later none of his old employees remained (they all quite or were laid off)
he soon lost his business!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ouch! sorry thats not funny but i guess what goes around comes around times a million!

thank goodness I haven't been anywhere that bad yet either..........if I did I would probably buy a huge hospital tank and buy them all to get them better...........

Oh wow.......I had a boss like that. He saw me the other day and I just ignored him, which being the attention freak that he is, just made him furious! I didn't even give him the satisfaction of a dirty look. He doesn't have any of his original staff that was there when I was except one girl, and she wants to marry him although he is married ..........it is a sick, sick world out there, I am glad we are both away from those cult-leaders.........
