Old Tank Cycle

I recently bought 14 Neon Tetras for my fish tank but sadly they all died in about a week thanks to the disease they brought in. They killed off about 10 of my fish are are left with 6.

Anyway. After boiling the sand, giving the log and plants (fake) a scrub and cleaning the tank....

... How long would it take for my tank to cycle again if I am using the same filter pads I had before but boiled and then soaked in undiseased water?

Since you wont have any bacteria left to seed the colony or kick start your new cycle, you may as well just treat it as a new tank and go ahead and get a brand new filter pad, etc.

never clean out your filter, you dont cycle the tank, you cycle the filter. every time you clean the filter you have to cycle again. the filter should NEVER be cleaned.

Basically, you are back to scratch. In the situation you had, it is much better to treat the tank rather than break everything down and clean it. The situation you had is why most of us use a quarantine tank for 2 to 4 weeks after buying new fish just to mak sure they are disease free before introducing them into our tanks.

edit: And your sure it wasnt an amonia or nitrite spike that killed the fish?

most people will buy meds for this, thats what meds are for you know. that way you wont have to go through all of this.
