So this lady was giving away some aquariums. All the add said was:
Free: (6) 15 galloon aquariums with sump, lights, stand, uv filter.
I saw the add and emailed her asking if all the aquariums go together or what? I didn't hear back from her and eventually went to bed. My dad called and I got up to answer the phone. He asks me if I had seen the add because he saw it, too. I said I'd seen it and asked about it but the lady never replied. Well, he tells me that he just left her house (!) and that she said if I want it I can have it but he wanted to check with me first. He goes on to explain that this is an old store display!! A few months back PetLand totally redid their entire store and they got rid of all their fish displays and tanks and everything. My dad said there are, indeed, 6 15 gallon tanks with their own spots on the display and a sump and uv filter and stuff down below. He said, though, that the display is about 6 feet tall and 6 feet wide!!!!!! That is why he didn't go ahead and take it. He explained to the lady that his daughter is a fish nut (guilty!!) but he wasn't sure if I'd have the room or want something so big. So, anyhow, I told him, yes, I want it. I don't have the room.......but I'll make room!! He's going to get it this morning and haul it all over in a couple trips.
NOW...here's the million dollar question......What the hell am I going to do with this huge set-up???? I'm a betta nut (and breed bettas), So my initial thought was to divide a couple of the tanks for bettas and then use some of them for grow out tanks, too..but I dunno.
Also, I've never used any kind of sump or anything like that. How does it all work?
Oh, I'll probably be back to ask 10,000 questions while I set this monster up! LOL

nice one!!!!!
lucky you. How about using them for Betta Hiltons (luxury accomodation), and having different themed tanks for your different Bettas (eg planted, Zen, shipwreck, etc). A good opportunity to convert one of your other tanks (not one connected in the sump setup) to a hospital/ quarantine tank too, if you haven't already.
ps, i'm very jealous!!!!

Wow, lucky you! Have fun stocking :good:

Well my dad brought the first load of stuff over. I don't think I'll use the sump. All the hoses and pipes are cracked and broken and it looks in real bad shape. My dad said he can help me seal up the drilled holes and I can just use individual filters. If I go with bettas then I'll probably use several sponge filters. He left to go get the display. Everything is pretty dirty and grungy, so this is going to be one big task...but I'll have fun getting it all together. I really don't think I'll have room in the house for this, but my dad's going to look at the wiring in the garage and maybe be able to get it hooked up out there. I'm so excited!!

You are so lucky to aquire this. Ok the sump may be useless, but the rest of the kit, when cleaned is very, very, useful.
I would really get into your Betta breeding full time when setup. Go out there and aquire some real show class betta's (top knotch stock)
and get to work. Even study how to breed for strain colouration etc. etc. That old run down setup will soon pay dividends if used to it's full potential.
Excellent aquisition.
