About a month & a half ago now, I bought 3 platys from my LFS, 2 female, 1 male. Yesterday I had a proper look at them as they were swimming around and on 2 of them, their tails are growing the 'sword' bit like swordtails have! Im really confused, as I also have 4 swordtails in the same tank.. and the 'platys' are a different shape etc.. Im not sure what they actually are now lol! They definately looked like platys when I bought them!
Is it possible that they are a 'cross' type? Platy X Swordy or something like that?

Yep swordtails and platys can easily crossbreed with each other, the resulting hybrid fry are not negatively effected by being swordtailXplaty hybrids either.
Often when you see "Jumbo" platys for sale, they are just swordtailXplaty hybrids, swordtails which have the "mickey mouse" patterning on their tails are always hybrids since this patterning comes from platys.

I bought a young female platy yesterday, and judging by her size I think I might have picked up a virgin female, but she was swimming around in a tank full of males - swordtails too. I wonder if she is pregnant to a swordy? She could just be small, I suppose, but I think she's a juvenile, maybe too young to breed.
You should post some photos of them in the hybrids forum.
