Odd Insect

I think this is some sort of beetle larvae. Pretty neat looking whatever it is!I found it scittering across the floor of my basement. Took some photos, and then released it outside.

I hate those things. Ive seen them at around two inches long. EWWWWWWWW!! Those and centipedes *shivers*

lol I was gonna change it, but I decided not to. I thought the picture i saw of the bug was the same size as the poo. But I went and checked my hamsters and it was mucho tiny especially since its a dwarf.
 
As a kid I could have sworn one of these blighters 'sprayed' my with something smelly... parents and sister never believed me...

Anyone else had this happen?
 
They do that smithrc, if you have a look at the link I posted you will find positive confirmation that you weren't imagining it :)

devil's coach-horse beetle (Staphylinus olens) ........ It also emits a foul smelling odour, as a defensive secretion, from a pair of white glands at the end of its abdomen. In the scientific name olens means smelling and describes this secretion.
