Odd Insect

I think this is some sort of beetle larvae. Pretty neat looking whatever it is!I found it scittering across the floor of my basement. Took some photos, and then released it outside.

Hi that would be the Devil's Coach horse i used to call them fake scorpions as a kid as they would raise their tails toward you when aproached here:

I hate those things. Ive seen them at around two inches long. EWWWWWWWW!! Those and centipedes *shivers*

lol I was gonna change it, but I decided not to. I thought the picture i saw of the bug was the same size as the poo. But I went and checked my hamsters and it was mucho tiny especially since its a dwarf.

Yep, Devils coachman, we called them....but they do bite, good to have it in a jar and not your hand.

As a kid I could have sworn one of these blighters 'sprayed' my with something smelly... parents and sister never believed me...

They do that smithrc, if you have a look at the link I posted you will find positive confirmation that you weren't imagining it

devil's coach-horse beetle (Staphylinus olens) ........ It also emits a foul smelling odour, as a defensive secretion, from a pair of white glands at the end of its abdomen. In the scientific name olens means smelling and describes this secretion.
