does this only affect neon tetras (as the name implies)?
or may be transferred to other fishes within the infected tank?

My understanding is that once the neon that is infected dies, if another fish takes a bite out of it, it can be passed along, and supposedly fish from goldfish all the way to angel fish can get it so you should remove the infected fish immediatly becuause once it dies, one nibble can kill a fish..

It was first identified in neons which is why it was named NTD but other fish can definitely contract it. Neons seem to be extremely susceptible to it though.
