so i know i have a deep substrate and have decided i soon want to replace te gravel with a sand subtrate. i have been slowly cleaning and removing gravel fo last week or so...

tonighti scooped out a few kg worth from some of the deepest parts, when i did so there was rather a lot of gas bubbles went dancing merilly to the surface - am concerned i hve disturbed some anerobic gas bubbles, is it likely to have harmed the fish?
i have done a water change and am nervously watching the fish - they all seem ok at the moment

 should i worry?

Some trapped gas is fine, if the gravel was black and the gas smelled really strong then it might be sulphur dioxide, smells like rotten egg. I have had it in the past with no problems for the fish, that I could see. I wouldn’t be worried, you can keep an eye on the fish and do another water change if there is any cause for concern, but I doubt there will be.

Yup if you aren't smelling that awful rotten egg smell so bad you have to throw up then you are fine.

thanks gang, i didnt notice any strong guffy smell and the fish are OK
remove a load more gravel tonight witfh a few more bubbles - but no niff

anyone want some gravel???

almost done not much left should all be out in a few more days....

Do you have malaysian trumpet snails? They leave bubbles under the gravel too.
