I recently changed my soil to ADA amazonian, and I am going through the EXCRUCIATING cycle wait.
My tank is heavily planted and I have been checking the levels and doing water changes every 3 days. ADA soil, so I have been told, comes with a good dosage of ammonia to help with the cycling and plant growth.
anyways, about a week into the cycle I was still getting stable readings.
PH 6.0
KH 2
NO2 0.5mg/l
GH 7
NH3/NH4 5.0mg/l
When I did a check today, this is what I got.
PH 6.0
KH 3
NO2 1.6mg/l
GH 6
NH3/NH4 3.0mg/l
I don't have a NitrAte test and I read that NO2 tests convert Nitrates to Nitrites and gives you a reading of both, but it's impossible to distinguish between the two.
SOOOOO. is it safe to assume that with my Ammonia levels dropping and my NO2 levels rising, that I am near completion of my tank cycle?
The filter I used was well established, over two years and my tank is heavily planted; everything is growing like a weed. I tried to keep my lighting to a minimum, but I still have some algae on the glass and I am itching to get some foxes and amanos in there to clean up before I introduce my Apisto cacatuoides. I also doubled my CO2 output to try and suffocate the algae.
