Newbie - General Fishie Questions...

hello there! i am a beginner fish hobbyist, i have a 10 gallon tank (ive since read this is a bad idea, however i am still with parent and am not currently allowed a bigger tank)

i have
2 platies,
2 zebra danios
2 golden barbs
and 2 fishi dont know...
oh and a live mussel
here is a picture...

1. have i overstocked? im very worried i am going to cause distress to my fishies - they are my babies lol
if not...can i have more? or is this a strain on the stock?

2. do snails/shrimps etc count when deciding the amount of fish?

3. one of my fish has a broken fin (he was being bullied) he seems fine, and is very perky and eating well - but will it grow back?

4. what is this fish?

1. A little overstocked, probably, but nothing you can't stay on top of with good water changes.

2. I don't really count snails and shrimps.

i wouldnt add any more fish as once they are fully grown you will be on/over the reccomended stock quota, general rule 1inch of fish to 1 gallon just make shure they have adaquate hiding and filteration is good

oh thankyou i waterchange as often as i can and my fish seem quite happy - thanks for the advice! i will probably eventually get a bigger tank but for now its ok

Judging from your picture it looks fine to me Sammy.

We all started with small tanks and so long as you keep to the basic routine of cleaning and understand filtration then i am sure another larger tank will only be a short time away.

By the way,did i say the tanks looks great,if not then it does,good job.

I made a mistake, its actually 12 gallon everything is going well and my fishies are thriving! thanks for the help
